Untitled by Dara Girel Mats

I have a large piece of canvas I work on whenever I am confused or frustrated. I use it as a diary, a visual, physical, and visceral expression of where I am and where I have been. I marked this time on canvas by slowly filling in 81 squares in a 1×1 meter grid with rich color to appreciate the space I had to create at that moment. It was a practice in gratefulness to contrast my year of discontent. I plan to carry this piece, and this time, with me for the rest of my life.
