Quarantine – A Sonnet

Jude Anson Ancaja

Pasig, the Philippines

For years, I kept myself in the shadows

Patiently waiting for the time to strike

My mere existence can bring forth sorrow

To rich, developing countries alike

When I fin’lly dropped my secret weapon,

I knew this unjust world was in a pinch

News of my trek reached to every nation;

And I infested bodies inch by inch

But the government was quite ingenious,

The community was in quarantine

It was at this moment, I was hopeless

Extirpated by social distancing

Just when I thought that my reign has ended,

I fortunately found the Philippines!
